I've met all kinds of people over the net over the years, some are patrons, some have turned into good friends. Recently I was contacted by Rick Sturtz at www.sturtzdesign.com. After seeing my work he was moved enough to send me a few samples of retro-industrial lighting, the type that I have used in some of my lighting. Rick has amassed an impressive collection of similar lights and is still going.

I'm not sure yet what my plans are for these incredible specimens, but I'll keep everyone including rick posted.

Who doesn't love the lines and implications of a chainsaw. A local friend and small engine mechanic who often barters metalwork for repairs to all my small engines donated these chainsaw heads that were destined for the scrap heap. I'm not sure If I'm going to reassemble them or just clean them up and turn them into lamps. Check out Don's cool Youtube channel where he posts videos on engine repairs. He also takes repair questions from viewers and will try to make a short video on how to complete the task. A very cool Idea.

Jewelry Making

Last weekend my daughter Gretta her friend Nicole came to the workshop

to make some jewelry. This is a short Photo essay of the day we had.

First we drew out a few ideas.

Cutting the metal.

Sanding the sharp edges

Etching.

Brushing.

Hammering.

Sawing.

Drilling.

Riviting.

Attaching the findings.

Aluminum Sculpture

Annie Veitch (another talented Muskoka artist), and I worked on this commissioned piece together. Made from aluminum, with copper accents, It stands over 6' tall. It will eventually sit on a piece of granite and be lit from the base.

Spark Plug Lamp

Hanging Propeler Lamp

A hanging pendant light I assembled from a damaged prop and a safety

cage from a movie set. The prop comes from the same motor as the original Skeg lamp. It's my goal to use as many piece's from the motor as possible. Look for the carb wall sconces shortly.

If you get a chance, there is a five part mini-series from the BBC called the Genius of Design. If you have ever wondered about the processes and history of design I highly recommend this series. It covers everything from the arts and crafts movement, Tiger tank, to why your Bauhaus Chair is so uncomfortable.

Skeg Lamp 2.0

Someone donated another abused skeg to me. The last one was meant to a wall sconce or hung over a door. I think this is going to be a table lamp. Still looking for some glass. I stripped the paint off the first one but I like the patina on here.

This is a submarine sculpture I've been working on for a few months now. I submitted it last weekend into the Muskoka Arts and Crafts Spring show where it won an "Award for Excellence for Sculpture". It measures about 40" long.
